示眾云。有而不有。情塵豁盡而獨靈。無而不無。妙應差殊而不忒。所以僧問香嚴。如何是道。嚴云。枯木裏龍吟。如何是道中人。嚴云。髑髏裏眼睛。又僧問風穴。如何是道。穴云。五鳳樓前。如何是道中人。穴云。問取隍城。便諸人如何履踐。得始終貫徹。表裏通同去。還會麼。華蜂釀蜜春脾凍。月兔噴霜夜氣清。

Instructing the assembly, he said: "Existing without existing—feeling and dust are swept clean away, uniquely numinous. Not existing without not existing—wondrous responses vary and differ, yet without error. Therefore a monk asked Xiangyan, 'What is the Way?' Yan said, 'A dragon chanting in a withered tree.' 'Who is the person within the Way?' Yan said, 'Eyes in a skull.' Another monk asked Fengxue, 'What is the Way?' Xue said, 'Before the Five Phoenix Tower.' 'Who is the person within the Way?' Xue said, 'Inquire of the moat and city wall.' How do all of you tread so as to penetrate from beginning to end, inside and out completely merged? Do you understand? The flower-bee brews honey, the spring spleen is chilled; the moon rabbit breathes out frost, the night air is pure."
