示眾舉。仰山夢往彌勒所。居第二座。尊者白云。今日當第二座說法。山起白槌云。摩訶衍法。離四句絕百非。謹白。仰山舉似溈山。山云。子已登聖位。師云。玉女依俙夜動機。錦絲歷歷吐梭臍。水天湛碧全功墮。雪月寒清一色迷。諸禪德。全功負墮。一色猶迷。作麼生體悉得恰好相應去。權挂垢衣云是佛。却裝珍御復名誰。

Instructing the assembly, he cited: "Yangshan dreamed he went to Maitreya's place and sat in the second seat. An elder announced, 'Today the second seat should expound the Dharma.' Yangshan struck the gavel and said, 'The Mahāyāna Dharma departs from the four propositions and cuts off the hundred negations. Respectfully announced!' Yangshan related this to Guishan. Guishan said, 'You have already ascended to the noble rank.'" The Master said, "Vaguely at night the jade maiden works the loom; shimmering brocade threads emerge from the shuttle's navel. Sky and water are deep azure—completely fallen from function; snow and moon are cold and clear—lost in a single color. Zen worthies! 'Completely fallen from function; still lost in a single color'—how can you experience this so as to accord just right? Provisionally wearing soiled clothes, he is called a buddha; but dressed in precious royal robes, what then is he named?"
