冬至上堂僧問。化紐轉樞。又是一陽生也。乾坤那畔。還有此箇消息也無。師云。日月不到處古今無盡時。進云。寒巖回暖信。華笑不萠枝師云。猶是門外漢。進云。作麼生是門裏底人。師云。不得名邈。僧禮拜。

Ascending the hall on the Winter Solstice, a monk asked: “The pivot of transformation turns, and once again the single yang arises. On the other side of heaven and earth, is there also this message or not?” The Master said: “Where the sun and moon do not reach, the past and present are without end.” The monk advanced and said: “At the cold crag returns the message of warmth; flowers laugh on unsprouted branches.” The Master said: “You are still a fellow outside the gate.” The monk advanced and said: “What is a person inside the gate?” The Master said: “He cannot be named or depicted.” The monk bowed.
