上堂云。妙存湛湛不為無。真照靈靈不為有。更向其間退步看。白雲斷處青山瘦參。

Ascending the hall, he said: “The subtle existence, calm and clear, is not non-existence; the true illumination, numinous and alert, is not existence. Furthermore, take a step back and look within it: where the white clouds break off, the green mountains are lean. Investigate!”
