This single matter is entirely without a place for learning. The essential point is to make body and mind empty and vast, equal in measure to the great void; then naturally in all places it is fully equipped. Luminous, it cannot be obscured; distinct, it cannot be mixed up. The moon follows the flowing water; the rain pursues the moving clouds. Utterly without such a mind, yet able to accomplish such matters. Only do not use the self to obstruct things, and naturally no things will obstruct you. Body and mind are of a single suchness; outside the body there is no remainder. Same substance and same function, one nature and one characteristic. Sense faculties and dusts directly transcend duality. Therefore it is said: 'The sage has no self, yet there is nowhere that is not the self.' Manifesting like this, clearly evident like this, one then knows that gathering in and letting go, one becomes a white ox on the open ground—even if driven, it will not leave.
