1.96

上堂。連雨初晴九月一。打圓相云。日頭依舊東邊出。照見五蘊皆空。衲僧參學事畢。忽然雨又落時如何。一尺水一丈波。謝郎船上唱山歌。

Ascending the hall, [the Master said]: "After continuous rain, it has just cleared on the first of the ninth month." Drawing a circle, he said: "The sun rises in the east as before. Illuminating and seeing the five aggregates as all empty, the patch-robed monk's task of study is complete. If suddenly it should rain again, what then? One foot of water, ten feet of waves; / Master Xie sings a mountain song aboard his boat."
