舉。臨濟問院主。甚處來（掌云這裏來）主云。州中糶黃米來（却實頭）濟云。糶得盡麼（入草求人）主云。糶得盡（兩搭不迴頭）濟以拄杖一畫云。還糶得這箇麼（有甚死急）主便喝（蝦蟇叫）濟便打（伏手骨桗）次典座至。舉前話（少賣弄）座云。院主不會和尚意（口是禍門）濟云。爾又作麼生（上身上來也）座便禮拜（轉見不堪）濟亦打（趁手快）。

Case: Linji asked the temple director: 'Where do you come from?' (Raising his palm, he says: 'I come from here.') / The director said: 'I come from selling yellow millet in the prefecture.' (Rather honest and straightforward.) / Linji said: 'Did you sell it completely?' (Entering the grass to seek the person.) / The director said: 'I sold it completely.' (Taking two strides without turning back.) / Linji made a line with his staff, saying: 'Can you also sell this?' (What urgent rush to die?) / The director then shouted. (The croak of a toad.) / Linji then struck him. (A bone club that subdues the hands.) / Next, the tenzo arrived; Linji brought up the preceding conversation. (A bit of showing off.) / The tenzo said: 'The temple director did not understand the Venerable's intention.' (The mouth is the gate of calamity.) / Linji said: 'What about you?' (Coming upon the body.) / The tenzo then made a prostration. (Becoming all the more unbearable.) / Linji also struck him. (Taking the opportunity with speed.)
