98.5

懶瓚和尚歌云。莫謾求真佛。真佛不可見。妙性及靈臺。何曾受熏練。心是無事心。面是孃生面。劫石可移動。箇中無改變。又云。吾有一言。絕慮忘緣。巧說不得。只用心傳。更有一語。無過直與。細於毫末。大無方所。本自圓成。不勞機杼。

The song of Venerable Lanzan says: / Do not falsely seek the true Buddha; / The true Buddha cannot be seen. / The wondrous nature and the luminous terrace— / When have they ever undergone perfuming and smelting? / The mind is a mind free of affairs; / The face is the face born of mother. / The kalpa-rock may move, / But herein there is no change. / He also said: / I have a single word / That cuts off deliberation and forgets conditions. / Clever speech cannot reach it; / It is transmitted only through mind. / I also have a single phrase, / None surpassing direct bestowal: / Finer than the tip of a fine hair, / So vast it has no spatial location. / Originally, naturally complete and fulfilled, / It requires no labor of loom and shuttle.
