晦堂謂朱給事世英曰。予初入道自恃甚易。逮見黃龍先師後。退思日用。與理矛盾者極多。遂力行之三年。雖祁寒溽暑確志不移。然後方得事事如理。而今咳唾掉臂。也是祖師西來意（章江集）。

Huitang said to Supervising Secretary Zhu Shiying, ‘When I first entered the Way, I was self-confident that it was very easy. After I met my late master Huanglong, I withdrew and reflected on my daily activities, finding that they contradicted principle in a great many instances. I then practiced it vigorously for three years, and though in bitter cold or damp summer heat, my firm purpose did not waver. Only after that did I manage to have every single affair accord with principle. And now, even coughing, spitting, or swinging my arms is also the ancestral master's intention in coming from the west.’ (Zhangjiang Collection)
