晦堂曰。黃龍先師昔同雲峯悅和尚。夏居荊南鳳林。悅好辯論。一日與衲子作喧。先師閱經自若如不聞見。已而悅詣先師案頭。瞋目責之曰。爾在此習善知識量度耶。先師稽首謝之。閱經如故（已上並見靈源拾遺）。

Huitang said, ‘Formerly, my late master Huanglong spent the summer retreat at Fenglin in Jingnan together with the Venerable Yunfeng Yue. Yue loved debate. One day he caused a clamour with a patch-robed monk; my late master read his scripture calmly, as if he neither heard nor saw it. Soon after, Yue came to my late master's desk, glared with wide eyes, and rebuked him, saying, ‘Are you here practicing the measure of a kalyāṇamitra?’ My late master bowed his head and apologized to him, reading the scripture as before.’ (All the above appear in Gleanings of Lingyuan)
