1.69

寶峯英和尚曰。諸方老宿批判先覺語言拈提公案。猶如捧土培泰山掬水沃東海。然彼豈賴此以為高深耶。觀其志在益之。而不自知非其當也（廣錄）。

Master Ying of Baofeng said: "The elders of various quarters criticize and assess the words of the enlightened ones of the past, raising and citing public cases (kōans); this is just like carrying handfuls of soil to bank up Mount Tai, or scooping up water to pour into the Eastern Sea. Yet do those [mountains and seas] rely upon this to become high and deep? Looking at their intention, they aim to augment them, but they do not realize themselves that this is inappropriate."
