辯公謂混融曰。像龍不足致雨。畫餅安可充饑。衲子內無實德外恃華巧。猶如敗漏之船。盛塗丹艧。使偶人駕之。安於陸地。則信然可觀矣。一旦涉江湖犯風濤得不危乎（月窟集）。

The venerable Bian said to Hunrong: 'An image of a dragon cannot bring rain; how can a painted rice cake satisfy hunger? Monks lacking genuine virtue within while relying on external ornament and contrivance are like a ruined, leaking boat heavily coated with red lacquer, steered by wooden puppets. Placed on dry land, it truly looks magnificent; but once it crosses rivers and lakes and braves wind and waves, can it avoid danger?' (Yueku Collection)
