27.100

道言。會稽人。靈芝之高弟。專修淨業。臨終數日前見二神人長丈餘。報言。何不繫念。於是大集道俗念佛三晝夜。將畢自升座說法為眾懺悔。至曉即座而化。

Daoyan was a native of Kuaiji and a prominent disciple of Lingzhi. He focused on cultivating Pure Land practice. A few days before his death, he saw two divine figures over ten feet tall, who reported: "Why do you not focus your mindfulness?" Thereupon he gathered a great assembly of monastics and laypeople to recollect the Buddha for three days and three nights. When it was nearly completed, he ascended the seat himself, expounded the Dharma, and repented on behalf of the assembly. At dawn, he passed away while still on the seat.
