27.101

宗賾。住長蘆作蓮華勝會錄。勸人預名念佛。忽夢白衣士謂曰。欲入公彌陀會。師秉筆問其名。曰普慧。書已復云。家兄亦告上名。問何名。曰普賢。言訖遂隱。師以聖賢幽贊。乃更以二大士居其首。師述勸修淨土頌。有云。三界炎炎如火聚。道人未是安身處。蓮池勝友待多時收拾身心好歸去。目想心存望聖儀。直須念念勿生疑。它年淨土花開處。記取娑婆念佛時。此頌最在人口（蓮花勝會錄文。及淨土頌。十六觀頌。並見所著葦江集）住普會時。迎母居方丈東室勸念佛。臨終前一日。師夢母謂曰。我見尼師十餘人來召。師曰。此往生之祥也。

Zongze resided at Changlu and composed the Lianhua shenghui lu (Record of the Sublime Lotus Assembly), encouraging people to enroll their names and recollect the Buddha. Suddenly he dreamed of a white-robed gentleman who said to him: "I wish to join your Amitābha assembly." The master held his brush and asked his name, and he replied: "Puhui." When he had written it down, [the man] said again: "My elder brother also wishes to submit his name." When asked what his name was, he replied: "Puxian (Samantabhadra)." Having spoken, he vanished. Taking this as covert endorsement by the holy sages, the master then placed the two Great Beings at the head [of the register]. In the Master's "Ode Encouraging the Cultivation of the Pure Land," it says: / "The triple world is blazing like a mass of fire; / For a person of the Way, it is no place to settle. / The excellent companions of the Lotus Pool have long been waiting; / Gather up body and mind, and return! / With the eyes imagine and with the mind retain the holy countenance; / You must simply maintain mindfulness from moment to moment without doubt. / In future years, where the flowers bloom in the Pure Land, / Remember this time of recollecting the Buddha in the sahā-world." / This ode was on everyone's lips. (The text of the Lianhua shenghui lu, the Pure Land odes, and the odes on the sixteen contemplations all appear in his Weijiang ji.) While residing at Puhui, he welcomed his mother to dwell in the eastern room of the abbot's quarters and urged her to recollect the Buddha. The day before she died, the master dreamed that his mother told him: "I see more than ten nuns coming to summon me." The master said: "This is an auspicious sign of rebirth."
