智仙號真教。住白蓮講道十三年。西向十念歷十二時未嘗廢。一夕微疾。請觀堂行人誦彌陀經。卷未終而坐脫。能仁行人。皆聞眾樂和鳴。黎明始知師亡。

Zhixian, styled Zhenjiao, resided at Bailian and expounded the Way for thirteen years. Facing the West, he practiced the Ten Recitations throughout the twelve two-hour periods without ever neglecting it. One evening he had a slight illness, and asked the practitioners of the Contemplation Hall to recite the Amitābha Sūtra; before the scroll was finished, he passed away while sitting. Practitioners at Nengren all heard an ensemble of music playing in harmony, and only at dawn did they learn that the Master had died.
