27.77

遵式。初居天台東山。遍行四種三昧。後住四明寶雲。結緇素專修淨業。作誓生西方記。及居天竺靈山。於寺東建日觀菴。為送想西方之法。依無量壽經述往生淨土懺儀。為杭守馬亮述淨土行願法門往生略傳。後居草堂示疾。弟子問所歸。對以寂光淨土。至夜奄然坐逝。

Zunshi initially lived at Dongshan in Tiantai, where he practiced all four kinds of samādhi. Later, he resided at Baoyun in Siming, gathering both monastics and laity to devote themselves to pure karma, and composed the *Record of Vowing Rebirth in the West*. When he lived at Ling Shan in Tianzhu, he built the Hermitage for Contemplating the Sun to the east of the monastery as a method for directing one's thoughts to the West. Relying on the *Amitāyus Sūtra*, he compiled the *Repentance Ritual for Rebirth in the Pure Land*, and composed the *Dharma-Gate of Practice and Vows for the Pure Land* and the *Brief Biographies of Rebirth* for Ma Liang, the Governor of Hangzhou. Later, he stayed at Caotang and displayed illness. When his disciples asked where he would go, he answered that it was the Pure Land of Tranquil Light. When night came, he passed away peacefully while seated.
