本如號神照。住東山承天三十年。講經之餘。集百人修法華懺。一年。與郡守章郇公結白蓮社。一日升座說法。與眾訣別。江上漁人見雲端有僧西去。明年啟塔尊容如生。有蓮華產於塔前。

Benru, styled Shenzhao, lived at Chengtian on Dongshan for thirty years. In between lecturing on the sūtras, he gathered a hundred people to practice the Lotus Repentance for one year. He also formed a White Lotus Society with the Commandery Governor, Duke Zhang Xun. One day he ascended the seat to preach the Dharma and bid farewell to the assembly. Fishermen on the river saw a monk ascending to the west amidst the clouds. The following year, when his stupa was opened, his venerable countenance looked as if he were still alive, and lotus flowers had sprung up before the stupa.
