27.81

思義號淨慧住靈山二十三年。退居草堂。一日別眾而逝。眾念誦。久之忽復省曰。適隨觀音大士行見金色沙門長身垂臂。謂我曰。汝報緣未盡。過七日當遣迎。至期趺坐而化。瘞龕之日有赤雲垂布。向西而沒。

Siyi, styled Jinghui, lived at Ling Shan for twenty-three years, after which he retired to Caotang. One day, he bid farewell to the assembly and expired. The assembly recited texts for a long while, when he suddenly regained consciousness and said, "Just now, following the Mahāsattva Avalokiteśvara, I saw a golden-hued śramaṇa of tall stature with arms hanging down, who told me, 'Your karmic retributions are not yet exhausted; after seven days, I shall send [attendants] to welcome you.'" When the appointed time arrived, he sat cross-legged and passed away. On the day his casket was interred, red clouds hung spread across the sky and vanished toward the west.
