潮山黃婆。持金剛法華專心念佛。暑中忽得痢疾。但飲水不食。隣菴沙門善修常建念佛會。婆病中欲請修。修夢婆來。謂曰。將往西方。修未以為異。越二日婆西向念佛十聲。端坐而化。遠近皆見紅霞覆婆之屋。

Old Woman Huang of Chaoshan upheld the Diamond and Lotus Sūtras and dedicated her mind to reciting the Buddha's name. During the summer heat she suddenly contracted dysentery, and drank only water without eating food. Śramaṇa Shanxiu of a neighboring hermitage frequently held Buddha-recitation assemblies. While ill, the old woman wished to invite Xiu. Xiu dreamt that the old woman came and said to him, 'I am about to depart for the Western Direction.' Xiu did not take it to be extraordinary. After two days, the old woman faced west, recited the Buddha's name ten times, sat upright, and passed away. Near and far, all saw red clouds covering the old woman's house.
