Lady Xiang, [named] Miaozhi, was a native of Yin in Siming. Widowed, she had both of her two daughters become nuns and lived with them at Yang Hermitage. Whenever she saw people, she urged them only to recite the Buddha's name. In her late years, she fell ill and said to the nuns: 'Many nuns are waiting to escort me to the West.' She then invited people to recite the Buddha's name. Suddenly, she said: 'I wished to pass away seated; you made a coffin by mistake.' Her daughter said: 'The Buddha used a golden coffin; there is nothing amiss with it.' The mother happily chanted the Contemplation of the Highest Grade, turned her body to face west, formed a mudrā with both hands, and passed away with a smile (the sixth year of Shaoding).
