Monk Huiming, styled Huian, studied under Huiguang, the Controller of the Sangha. In his later years, he relied on Changzhao Temple on Mount Jing, cultivating pure karma together with Zhiye. His daily practice was reciting the Lotus, Śūraṅgama, and Perfect Enlightenment Sūtras, and he recited the holy name of Amitābha tens of thousands of times. In the spring of the jiwei year of Qingyuan, he displayed illness and said to his disciples: 'I studied the Mahāyāna to seek rebirth in the Pure Land; now my vow is fulfilled.' Thereupon, crossing his feet, he passed away seated. The assembly heard heavenly music approach from the West and linger above his crown. From the remnants of his cremation, the multicolored relics were beyond count.
