Lady Shen of Qiantang recited the Buddha's name for over ten years, becoming more diligent with each passing day. She commissioned an artisan to paint an eight-foot image of Amitābha, and while ill, she set it up before her bed, saying with joy, 'How fortunate I am!' She immediately invited monks to recite the Buddha's name to assist her. Suddenly she said, 'I see a tall monk conferring a golden seat upon me.' Then she held the corner of a brocade cushion in front of the seat; the seat began to move. 'I fear there may be an obstacle; I hope the assembly will recite the Buddha's name for me even more.' The assembly all chanted vigorously and with raised voices. After a long while, she spoke again, 'Through the merit of reciting the Buddha's name, I have already mounted the golden pedestal; departing now, I shall not return.' Thereupon, closing her eyes, she passed away.
