詔嵩岳慧安禪師。入禁中問道（五祖旁出）○詔沙彌法藏。於太原寺開華嚴宗旨。感白光昱然自口而出。須臾成蓋。都講以聞。有旨命京城十大德為授滿分戒。賜號賢首。詔入大遍空寺。佐實叉難陀。參譯華嚴。

An imperial decree summoned Chan Master Hui'an of Mount Song to enter the palace to inquire about the Way (he was a collateral successor of the Fifth Patriarch). An imperial decree commanded the novice Fazang to expound the essential tenets of the Avataṃsaka at the Taiyuan Monastery. This elicited a white light shining brilliantly forth from his mouth, which in an instant formed a canopy. The lecturing officer reported this. An edict ordered ten great virtues of the capital to administer the full precepts to him, bestowed upon him the title of Xianshou, and ordered him to enter the Da Biankong Monastery to assist Śikṣānanda and take part in translating the Avataṃsaka.
