七年。上幸國學釋奠。命博士徐曠講孝經。沙門慧乘講心經。道士劉進善講老子。博士陸德明（本名元朗）隨方立義。遍析其要。帝說曰。三人者誠辯矣。然德明一舉輒蔽。

In the seventh year, the Emperor visited the National University for the seasonal sacrifice to Confucius. He ordered Erudite Xu Kuang to lecture on the Classic of Filial Piety, the śramaṇa Huicheng to lecture on the Heart Sūtra, and the Daoist Liu Jinshan to lecture on Laozi. Erudite Lu Deming (original name Yuanlang), following each subject, established their meanings and comprehensively analyzed their essentials. The Emperor said with pleasure, 'The three speakers are truly eloquent, yet Deming with a single stroke covers them all.'
