隋文帝。二祖惠可先傳法於僧粲。往正勅寺說法。有和法師謗於邑加以非法。先謂粲曰。吾有宿累今當償之○煬帝。三祖僧粲居皖公山。傳法於沙彌道信。儼立而化。

Under Emperor Wen of the Sui, the Second Patriarch Huike first transmitted the Dharma to Sengcan, and then went to Zhengchi Monastery to preach the Dharma. There was a Master He who slandered him in the city and subjected him to illegal punishment; [Huike] had previously said to Sengcan, "I have karmic debts from former lives, and now I must repay them." Under Emperor Yang, the Third Patriarch Sengcan resided on Mount Wangong, transmitted the Dharma to the novice Daoxin, and passed away while standing erect.
