白蓮菜者。高宗紹興初。吳郡延祥院僧弟子元。依倣天台出圓融四土圖。晨朝禮懺文。偈歌四句。佛念五聲勸男女修淨業。戒護生為尤謹。稱為白蓮導師。有以事魔論於有司者。流之江州。其徒展轉相教。至今為盛。

Regarding the White Lotus Vegetarians: In the early Shaoxing era of Emperor Gaozong, the monk disciple Ziyuan of Yanxiang Cloister in Wu Commandery, emulating the Tiantai, produced the Diagram of the Harmonious Merging of the Four Lands, morning penitential liturgies, four-line gāthā verses and songs, and five-tone Buddha recitation to encourage men and women to cultivate pure karma, being particularly meticulous in upholding the precept against harming life; he was called the White Lotus Guide. Some people accused him of serving demons before the authorities, and he was banished to Jiangzhou. His followers taught one another in succession, and to this day they flourish.
