9.48

禪師法論。依玉泉學。與會稽智果終南龍田法琳。皆同學智者。並與智者作傳。皆不復存。章安所撰別傳。用國清智寂禪師本。稍加增益遂行於世。此四師雖無事迹可尋。亦皆當時得道英器（見百錄序及別傳注）。

Dhyāna Master Falun studied under Yuquan; he, Zhiguo of Kuaiji, and Falin of Longtian on Mount Zhongnan all studied together under the Master of Wisdom. They all composed biographies of the Master of Wisdom, none of which survive. The Separate Biography compiled by Zhang'an was based on the text by Dhyāna Master Zhiji of Guoqing, slightly augmented, and subsequently circulated in the world. Although these four masters have no deeds that can be traced, they were also outstanding vessels who attained the Way in their time (see the preface to the Bailu and the notes to the Separate Biography).
