(32) In the twelfth month, the Crown Prince completed the construction of the Great Cien Monastery for Empress Wende. An edict was issued selecting fifty venerable masters of longstanding reputation in the capital, with each ordaining six attendants, to enter and reside in the new monastery.
In this month, on the bingchen day, the Crown Prince prepared fifty jeweled carriages to welcome the venerable masters, along with hundreds of colorful pavilions and precious banners, to enshrine the newly obtained Sanskrit palm-leaf scriptures, auspicious images, and relics. He decreed that the Nine Sections of Music of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, music of Chang'an and Wannian, and the monasteries of the capital lead the procession into the monastery with flowers and banners. The Emperor presided at the gate tower of Anfu Gate, holding an incense burner to pay reverence; he concluded only when the scriptures and images had all passed. The imperial heart was greatly delighted.
