In the autumn, the seventh month, the Crown Prince ascended the throne at Lingwu; this was Suzong. Within ten days, the military commission troops of the various garrisons that arrived numbered several hundred thousand. He then appointed Fang Guan as prime minister concurrently serving as commander-in-chief to chastise the rebels. Before long, he was defeated by Lushan. At that time, the peril of the bandit crisis was blazing. Someone suggested that they ought to rely on divine blessings and assistance. The emperor accepted this, brought in over a hundred monks, established a sanctuary at the temporary palace, and chanted hymns day and night. One night, the emperor dreamed of a monk whose body was golden chanting the name of Prabhūtaratna Tathāgata. He questioned his attendants about it. Someone answered, 'In Baicao Valley of the Helan Mountains, there is a Silla monk named Mulu who often chants [the name of] this Buddha and possesses considerable spiritual wonders.' The emperor was even more amazed. An imperial decree was issued summoning Mulu, but he firmly declined and would not come. Soon an imperial edict instructed Military Commissioner Guo Ziyi to convey the command, and only then did Mulu come to see him at the traveling palace. The emperor rejoiced and said, 'He is truly the monk I saw in my dream!' Soon afterward, Tripiṭaka Master Amoghavajra also had an audience at the traveling palace. The emperor detained them both and entrusted them with praying for divine protection and averting calamities.
