屏山曰。此語出於徐鉉誤讀首楞嚴經。佛言。五陰之識如頻伽瓶盛空以餉他方。空無出入。遂為禪學。豈知佛以此喻識情虛妄本無來去。其如來藏妙真如性正太陽元無動靜。無修而修。無證而證。但盡識情。即如來藏妙真如性。非遁辭也。

Pingshan said: "These words originated from Xu Xuan misreading the Śūraṅgama Sūtra. The Buddha said: 'The consciousness of the five aggregates is like a kalaviṅka-shaped jar filled with space and transported to another region; space neither enters nor leaves.' This was taken to be Chan learning! How could one know that the Buddha used this as an analogy for the unreality of conscious feelings fundamentally having neither coming nor going? The wondrous true suchness nature of the Tathāgatagarbha is just like the sun originally having neither motion nor stillness. Cultivating without cultivation, realizing without realization: simply exhaust conscious feelings, and that is the wondrous true suchness nature of the Tathāgatagarbha. These are not words of evasion."
