20.127

龜山曰。儒佛深處所差抄忽耳。見儒者之道分明。則佛在其下矣。今之學者曰。儒者之道在其下。是不知吾道之大也。為佛者既不讀儒書。儒者又自小。然則道何由明哉。

Guishan said: "At the deepest level, Confucianism and Buddhism differ by only a hair's breadth. If one sees the Way of Confucians clearly, then Buddhism is beneath it. Nowadays scholars say that the Way of Confucians is beneath it; this is because they do not know the greatness of our Way. Since Buddhists do not read Confucian books, and Confucians in turn belittle themselves, how then can the Way be made clear?"
