屏山曰。天地萬物人倫日用。皆形而下者。形而上者。誰之言歟。朱子耄而荒矣。偶忘此言。以為佛老之說。吾恐夫子之道亦將掃地矣。雖然不可不辯。佛之所謂色即是空。老子之所謂同謂之玄者。豈別有一物乎。朱子劃而為二。是墮於此而不自知耳。

Pingshan said: "Heaven and Earth, the myriad things, and daily human relations are all what is 'below form.' Who spoke of what is 'above form'? Master Zhu has grown senile and reckless; he happened to forget this saying, deeming it the doctrine of the Buddha and Laozi. I fear the Master's Way will also be swept to the ground! Nevertheless, one cannot leave it undefended: what the Buddha called 'form is emptiness' and Laozi called 'both are termed profound'—could there be another separate thing? Master Zhu divided them into two, falling into this very error without knowing it himself."
