(21) Thus the gradual spread of this transformation has indeed been vast! Is it not magnificent? In recording the monasteries of Luoyang, my pen falls far short of Dong Hu; in praising the Infinite Life of the West, we join in praying for the longevity of King Yao. Unable to fathom true suchness, I merely rejoice in this sacred era. Respectfully recorded. In this year, Chan Master Pu'an was enfeoffed with an additional title. The imperial edict read: 'By the mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: We have heard that the Buddhist teachings take emptiness and tranquility as their essence; would those who adhere to its learning ever wish to establish titles and distinctive epithets to show off to the world and future generations? Yet without this, the state has no means to manifest its intent of revering virtue and delighting in the Way. Since ascending the throne, We have heard that at the Cihua Chan Temple on Mount Nanquan in the Yuanzhou Circuit, Chan Master Pu'an Jigan Miaoji Zhenjue Zhaokuang Dade Huiqing has inherited the lineage of Linji and transcended the realm of the Avataṃsaka. His virtue shines upon the contemporary age, and his grace covers future times. His path is most revered, and Our mind earnestly yearns for it. While great posthumous titles have repeatedly been conferred, the title of his stūpa has yet to match them. It is fitting to grant the stūpa the title of Dingguang, named the Stūpa of Dingguang Lingrui. Let the relevant officials carry this out.'
