庚辰至元六年處士吳萊論作文如用兵。有正有奇。正者法度。如部伍分明是也。奇者不為法度所縛。千變萬化元不曾亂。

In the geng-chen year, the sixth year of Zhiyuan (1340 CE), the retired scholar Wu Lai discussed literary composition, comparing it to the deployment of troops: there are both orthodox and unorthodox tactics. The orthodox are the rules and regulations, just as military units are clearly divided; the unorthodox are not bound by rules and regulations, undergoing a thousand changes and ten thousand transformations while fundamentally never falling into disorder.
