Li Xiaoguang was a man of Wenzhou. In his youth he was broadly learned and earnest in purpose; in writing prose, he took as his model exclusively the ancient prose of the Qin and Han dynasties, refusing to be bound by contemporary fashions. Zhu Gongqian, whose courtesy name was Kesheng, was diligent in his writings; his Shuchuan shuyi (Commentary and Sub-commentary on the Book of Documents), Sishu yaoshuo (Essential Explanations of the Four Books), and Sishu tongzhi (Comprehensive Meaning of the Four Books) circulated in the world.
