In the thirtieth year of Zhiyuan, a guisi year [1293], Liu Wenjing, named Yin, lived in seclusion because by nature he would not improperly conform or associate recklessly with others. He taught pupils with grave reverence for the teacher's way and died at the age of forty-five. He was posthumously granted the rank of Academician and the posthumous name Wenjing. He authored the Essentials of the Four Books and a collection of poems in five fascicles. The imperial grandson Temür was put in command of the troops on the northern frontier; Bayan was recalled to reside in Datong. The imperial grandson raised a cup of wine to see him off, saying, "Now that you are leaving, what instruction do you have for me?" Bayan raised the poured wine and said, "What must be guarded against is only this and female beauty."
