Chan Master Wuwai, named Yuanxin, styled Wunian, of the Gao family, was a native of Jintai. "Wuwai" was his sobriquet. His mother dreamed of a monk asking for lodging and became pregnant. In childhood, he did not eat the five pungent roots. He paid homage to Dajue as his teacher, and later paid homage to Master Chun of Tianchi. He visited Wuji for investigation, and later attained thorough release. His verse says: / "Kunlun somersaults while the clear wind dances; / At the bottom of the ravine, the mud ox fights the stone tiger. / Bumping into the green pine, eyes sit upon the brows; / The gnat stomps through the belly of empty space." / Later, Yuehuan transmitted the robe and Dharma to him, and he appeared in the world at Mount Funiu.
