天奇禪師　鍾陵人。父江臺。母徐氏。二十聞。無說能和尚乃有道之士。依之出家剃落。教看一歸何處話。後得昱首座苦口提携晝夜拶逼。用心至其目如覩。其耳如聽。字字明白句句歷歷。晝夜如一。遂得豁然。又見寶峰禪師。乃得印證。有語錄行世。

Chan Master Tianqi was a native of Zhongling. His father was Jiang Tai and his mother was Lady Xu. At twenty, hearing that the monk Wushuo Neng was a man of the Dao, he relied on him to leave household life and have his hair shaven. [The master] instructed him to contemplate the topic: "Where does the one return to?" Later, he received earnest guidance from Head Monk Yu, who pressed him day and night. Tianqi applied his mind to the point that his eyes were as if seeing it and his ears were as if hearing it; every word was clear and every phrase distinct, day and night becoming one. Thereupon, he attained sudden illumination. He also visited Chan Master Baofeng and received certification. He had recorded sayings circulating in the world.
