In the eighth month of the fourth year, guiwei [1523], the mother of Prince Qisu of Jin fell ill with thirst. The Prince prayed to Heaven, and sweet springs gushed forth. When her illness was cured, he established a Daoist offering to repay and pray, and a pair of cranes flew, crying, around the altar. When his mother passed away, the Prince was emaciated with grief; ancient cypresses produced strange blossoms, whose extraordinary fragrance wafted over people.
