During the Xingning era of the Jin, he travelled east to the Cave of Yu to view the mountains and waters. At first, he stayed by the solitary pool of Ruoye, wishing to rely on the cliffs and lean on the ridges, to roost in leisure and nurture his aims; Xi Chao and Xie Qingxu both formed ties with him beyond worldly dust. At that time, the eastern lands suffered frequent epidemics. As Kuang had practiced the Compassion [Sūtra] from his youth and was skilled in divine dhāraṇīs, he traversed the villages to rescue those in danger and distress. He then came out to the city and stayed at Changyuan Temple; many of the common people who were sick prayed to him and obtained relief. Someone who could see ghosts said that wherever Kuang went or stayed, several dozen ghosts and spirits constantly guarded him in front and behind. At that time, the śramaṇa Zhu Daolin was making an image of Amitāyus; Kuang then led those with karmic affinity to erect a grand hall. Tradition recounts that when they felled timber they met with drought, and Kuang chanted a dhāraṇī to cause the water to rise. Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin admired what he heard of his reputation, and invited him to come to the capital, treating him with the etiquette due to a teacher, where he stayed at Changgan Temple. He died in the first year of the Yuanxing era at the age of seventy-six. Cavalier Attendant-in-Ordinary Gu Kaizhi composed a eulogy and biography for him.
