10.55

洪州雙嶺玄真禪師初問道吾。無神通菩薩為什麼足迹難尋。道吾曰。同道者方知。師曰。和尚還知否。曰不知。師曰。何故不知。曰去不識我語。師後於鹽官契會。

Chan Master Xuanzhen of Shuangling in Hongzhou initially asked Daowu: “Why are the footprints of a bodhisattva without supernatural powers hard to find?” Daowu said: “Only those on the same path know.” The master said: “Do you know, Upādhyāya?” He said: “I do not know.” The master said: “Why do you not know?” He said: “Be off, you don't understand my words.” The master later reached realization under Yanguan.
