11.44

紫桐和尚。僧問如何是紫桐境。師曰。阿爾眼裏著沙得麼。曰大好紫桐境也不識。師曰。老僧不諱此事。其僧出去。師下禪床擒住云。今日好箇公案。老僧未得分文入手。曰賴遇某甲是僧。師曰。禍不單行。

Upādhyāya Zitong. A monk asked, "What is the environment of Zitong?"
The Master said, "Can sand be put into your eyes?"
[The monk] said, "What a fine environment of Zitong, yet [you] do not recognize it."
The Master said, "This old monk does not conceal this matter."
The monk went out. The Master stepped down from the meditation seat, seized him, and said, "Today there is a fine public case (gong'an), yet this old monk has not gotten a single copper coin in hand."
[The monk] said, "Luckily you met me, who am a monk."
The Master said, "Misfortunes never come singly."
