延州伏龍山延慶院奉璘禪師。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。橫身臥海。日裏挑燈。問如何是伏龍境。師曰。山峻水流急三春足異華。問和尚還愛財色也無。師曰。愛曰既是善知識。為什麼却愛財愛色。師曰。知恩者少負恩者多。師問火頭。培火了未。曰低聲。師曰。什麼處得遮消息來。曰不假多言。師曰。省錢易飽喫了還飢。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。長虀冷飯。曰又太寂寞生。師曰。僧家合如是。

Chan Master Fenglin of Yanqing Monastery on Mount Fulong in Yanzhou. A monk asked: 'What is the Master's house style?' The Master said: 'Lying horizontally across the sea; lighting a lamp in broad daylight.' The monk asked: 'What is the realm of Fulong?' The Master said: 'Steep mountains, swift-flowing waters; late spring abounds in rare flowers.' The monk asked: 'Does the Master still love wealth and sex, or not?' The Master said: 'I love them.' The monk asked: 'Since you are a kalyāṇamitra, why do you instead love wealth and love sex?' The Master said: 'Few know gratitude; many turn their backs on it.' The Master asked the fire-tender: 'Have you banked the fire yet?' The fire-tender said: 'Lower your voice.' The Master said: 'Where did you get this news?' The fire-tender said: 'It does not require many words.' The Master said: 'Saving money is easy to be satisfied with, but having eaten, one is hungry again.' A monk asked: 'What is the Master's house style?' The Master said: 'Long-pickled greens, cold rice.' The monk said: 'Isn't that too desolate?' The Master said: 'A monastic ought to be like this.'
