Chan Master Xing of Mount Da'an in Anzhou (residing in the third generation). A monk asked: 'A lost person who has strayed from the road asks the Master for direct pointing.' The Master said: 'Go before the triple gate.' The monk asked: 'Taking a step and facing danger, I ask the Master to point to the moon.' The Master said: 'I do not point to the moon.' The monk asked: 'Why do you not point to the moon?' The Master said: 'Facing a pit, one does not push someone in.' The monk asked: 'Leaving behind the four propositions and cutting off the hundred negations, please, Upādhyāya, speak.' The Master said: 'In my King's treasury, there is no such sword.' The monk asked: 'What about when layer upon layer of locks shut tight and news does not get through?' The Master said: 'How could you get here?' The monk asked: 'What about after getting here?' The Master said: 'What are the matters over there like?' The monk asked: 'What is the true within the true?' The Master said: 'A mud Buddha at the crossroads.'
