21.43

吉州龍須山資國院道殷禪師。僧問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。普通八年遭梁怪。直至如今不得雪。問千山萬山如何是龍須山。師曰。千山萬山。僧曰。如何是山中人。師曰。對面千里。問不落有無請師道。師曰。汝作麼生問。

Zen Master Daoyin of Ziguo Monastery on Mount Longxu in Jizhou. A monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Ancestral Teacher's coming from the West?" The master said, "In the eighth year of Putong he incurred the blame of Liang, and down to the present day he has not been cleared." [A monk] asked, "Among thousands and myriads of mountains, what is Mount Longxu?" The master said, "Thousands and myriads of mountains." The monk said, "What is the person in the mountain?" The master said, "Face to face, a thousand miles apart." [A monk] asked, "Not falling into being or non-being, please speak, Master." The master said, "How do you ask?"
