21.44

福州祥光院澄靜禪師。僧問。如何是道。師曰。長安鼎沸。僧曰。向上事如何。師曰。谷聲萬籟起松老五雲披。問如何是和尚家風。師曰。門下平章事宮闈較幾重。

Zen Master Chengging of Xiangguang Monastery in Fuzhou. A monk asked, "What is the Way?" The master said, "Chang'an is in a boiling uproar." The monk said, "What about the transcendental matter?" The master said, "Valley sounds and myriad pipes arise; the pine grows old under five-colored clouds." [A monk] asked, "What is the house style of the upādhyāya?" The master said, "Matters discussed under the gate; how many layers to the palace chambers?"
