Zen Master Conggui of Baoci Monastery in Hangzhou was a native of Fuzhou, surnamed Chen. In his youth, he went to Shiti to leave the household. He first resided at Chengxin Temple in Yuezhou, and later resided at this monastery. A monk asked, "An ancient person said: 'When modern people read ancient teachings, they cannot avoid agitation in their minds; if you wish to avoid agitation in your mind, you must read ancient teachings.' What are the ancient teachings?" The master said, "Thus have I heard." The monk said, "What is the agitation in the mind?" The master said, "The chirping of sparrows over there." On the fourteenth day of the sixth month, the hour of the dragon, in the sixth year of Kaibao (guiyou), the master bathed and changed his clothes. Having announced his final instructions to his disciples, he passed away lying on his right side."
