杭州雲龍院歸禪師。僧問。久戰沙場為什麼功名不就。師曰。過在遮邊。僧曰。還有進處也無。師曰。氷消瓦解。

Chan Master Gui of Yunlong Cloister in Hangzhou. A monk asked, "Having fought long on the sands of the battlefield, why has no merit or fame been achieved?" The Master said, "The fault lies on this side." The monk said, "Is there still a way forward or not?" The Master said, "Ice melts and tiles disintegrate."
