24.29

金陵龍光院澄[怡-台+巳]（公在切）禪師廣州人也。姓陳氏。幼出家於本州觀音院。年滿納戒於韶州南華寺。尋遊方抵于泉州參法因大師印悟心地。後住舒州山谷寺。有僧新到。師問。什麼處來。曰江南來。師曰。汝還禮渡江船子麼。曰和尚為什麼教禮渡江船子。師曰是汝善知識。又住齊安龍光前後三處。聚徒說法終于龍光。

Chan Master Chengsi of Longguang Cloister in Jinling was a native of Guangzhou. His surname was Chen. In his youth he left home at Guanyin Cloister in his home prefecture. Having reached full age, he received the precepts at Nanhua Temple in Shaozhou. Soon he traveled on foot, arriving in Quanzhou, where he called upon Great Master Fayin, who verified and awakened his mind-ground. Later he resided at Shangu Temple in Shuzhou. A newly arrived monk came; the Master asked, "Where do you come from?" [The monk] said, "From Jiangnan." The Master said, "Did you pay homage to the boat that crossed the river?" [The monk] said, "Why does the upādhyāya teach me to pay homage to the boat that crossed the river?" The Master said, "It is your kalyāṇamitra." He also resided at Longguang in Qi'an. At three places successively he gathered disciples and expounded the Dharma, ending his life at Longguang.
