24.9

潞州延慶院傳殷禪師。僧問。見色便見心。燈籠是色那箇是心。師曰。汝不會古人意。曰如何是古人意。師曰。燈籠是心。問若能轉物即同如來。未審轉什麼物。師曰。道什麼。僧擬進語。師曰。遮漆桶。

Chan Master Chuanyin of Yanqing Monastery in Luzhou. A monk asked, "Seeing form is immediately seeing mind. A lantern is form; which one is mind?" The Master said, "You do not understand the ancient's meaning." The monk said, "What is the ancient's meaning?" The Master said, "The lantern is mind." The monk asked, "'If one can transform things, one is identical to the Tathāgata.' I wonder what things are transformed?" The Master said, "What did you say?" The monk was about to speak further, when the Master said, "This lacquer bucket!"
